Lateral arms carrying pads that are screwed down on the upper side of bombs or other stores to prevent movement relative to the rack or pylon. A bomb is said to be hard-crutched if it is screwed too hard and this results in a slight delay in releasing it after the trigger is pressed, thus resulting in an overshoot.
